Some of the best wine country on the East Coast is a short drive from our door, and a good part of it is on our list.
Enology Wine Bar & Bistro was built in Saint James to celebrate wine from around the world, but we never lose sight of what grows close to home. The North Fork of Long Island sits less than an hour east, and its producers earn their place on our list on merit, poured alongside bottles from Burgundy, Barolo, and beyond.
Why Long Island Belongs on the List
Our founder, Dr. Dimitrios “Jimmy” Kilimitzoglou, shaped the cellar to balance global discovery with local connection. That means a guest can travel from the Loire to the Aegean in a single evening and still find a wine grown in Suffolk County.
The North Fork has spent decades proving that maritime soil and a long, cool season can make wines of real character, and we are glad to give them room on the Cellar List.
Whites with a North Fork Snap
Two local whites anchor our aromatic section. The Lieb Cellars Pinot Blanc Estate sings with clean pear and apple, proof that elegance does not have to travel far. The Paumanok Sauvignon Blanc answers with snap-pea crispness and a breeze of grapefruit that captures the spirit of the East End.
Both are natural partners for Chef Albert’s lighter plates, from warm olives to a bright tomato salad.
The Reds of the East End
For reds, the McCall Estate Pinot Noir North Fork makes a strong case as the Burgundy of the East, delicate and clearly rooted in Long Island soil. The Meadow Lark Cabernet Franc brings a bright, cranberry-lifted energy, while the McCall Merlot Reserve shows how plush and polished a Right Bank style can be when it is grown in Cutchogue.
Rose Hill Wild Boar Doe and McCall Ben’s Blend round out the local reds with structure and a little swagger.
Bubbles Born on the Island
Start the night with the Sparkling Pointe Topaz Imperial Brut Rose, a local jewel that blushes with wild strawberry and finishes crisp and regal. It is a reminder that Long Island does sparkling wine with genuine finesse, no passport required.
