A Wine Bar Near Stony Brook
Stony Brook sits ten minutes east of us along 25A, and a good deal of our room comes from it: people from the university and the hospital, families in for a weekend, and anyone looking for somewhere to go after the Long Island Museum or an evening at the Staller Center.

What they tend to be after is a room that takes wine seriously without making a performance of it. That is more or less the whole idea here: a list worth reading, plates built to be shared, and a team happy to explain what is in your glass if you ask.

A performance, a museum afternoon, a long day on campus. We open at five and the kitchen runs to nine, or ten on Friday and Saturday.

A cellar list is only useful if somebody will talk you through it.
We pour by the half glass for a reason. It is the cheapest way to find out that you like Nebbiolo, or that you do not. The list runs from North Fork producers a few miles east of here to estates in Piedmont and the Rhone, and the team would genuinely rather steer you somewhere unfamiliar than nod at the safe order. If that is your idea of an evening, the wine classes go further: one region, several glasses, a small table and someone explaining as you go.

How long is the drive from Stony Brook?
About ten minutes. We are at 412 N Country Road in Saint James, roughly three and a half miles west along 25A.
Is this a good spot after an event on campus?
Yes, if the timing works. We open at 5 and the kitchen serves until 9 Tuesday through Thursday, and until 10 Friday and Saturday. We are closed Sunday and Monday.
Do you run wine classes?
We do. Guided tastings run through the year at a small table, usually walking through one region or grape. Dates and seats are listed on our events page.
Can we book for parents weekend or a department dinner?
Yes. Tables run an hour and a half; for six or more, or a proper celebration, our private events page has the packages and we will take it from there.
Do you take walk-ins?
At the bar, always. Tables are better booked ahead, particularly at the weekend.
